Bangladeshi Father and Son Killed in Road Accident in Detroit

Belal Ahmed: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of Bangladeshi father and son, Nur Mia and his son Md Mahidul Islam Sujan, in Hamtramck, Detroit, Michigan. According to Hamtramck Police, the accident, which occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, also left three others injured. The collision took place near the intersection of Conant Road and McNichols Road, close to the Detroit Durga Temple. Police reports indicate that Sujan’s car was hit by another vehicle, which had been speeding away from police after a suspected pursuit. Both Nur Mia and Sujan died on the spot due to the impact. The crash involved six vehicles in total, resulting in injuries to three others who were taken to a nearby hospital. Hamtramck Police Chief Jamil Al-Taheri expressed his condolences to the victims’ family, calling it a heartbreaking incident. Michigan State Police and Detroit Police Department are assisting Hamtramck Police in the investigation. According to Sujan's cousin, Naved Ahmed, Sujan had been living in the U.S. with his family for several years through marriage. A couple of months ago, he brought his father and other family members to join him. On the night of the accident, Sujan was taking his father to his in-laws' residence when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle. Their bodies are being prepared for repatriation to Bangladesh after completing the legal formalities. The accident has cast a pall of grief over the Bangladeshi community in Detroit and across the U.S., who mourn the tragic loss.
