The Selim-Ali panel achieved a historic victory in the Bangladesh Society election in New York. Out of 18,000 eligible voters in the society, around 10,000 participated in the election, which garnered significant interest and excitement within the Bangladeshi expatriate community. Two panels competed directly, and Rizu Mohammad was elected as the Publicity and Publication Secretary unopposed. For the remaining 18 positions, all candidates from the Selim-Ali panel won by margins of 700 to 1,500 votes.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Jamal Ahmed Jony announced the results at 11 p.m. from the election commission’s temporary office at Gulshan Terrace in Queens after vote counting was completed. Ataur Rahman Selim won the President's position with 5,289 votes, and Mohammad Ali won the General Secretary position with 5,179 votes. Other elected officials included Senior Vice President Mohiuddin Dewan, Vice President Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Joint General Secretary Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, Treasurer Mofizul Islam Rumi, Organizational Secretary Duke Khan, Cultural Secretary Anik Raj, Social Welfare Secretary Jamil Ansari, Literary Secretary Akhtar Babul, Sports Secretary Ashraf Ali Khan, and School and Education Secretary Mohammad Hossain Jilani.
The victorious Selim-Ali panel’s election campaign was led by Shah Nawaz, President of Golden Age Home Care and a prominent community activist, as coordinator, while Tofayel Ahmed served as the member secretary. Both President-elect Ataur Rahman Selim and General Secretary-elect Mohammad Ali expressed their gratitude to the community for their support.
